Doug Nettles began his athletic career in Panama City on one friday night in September against Woodam high of Pensacola. He filled in for the starting running back, Marvin West and rushed for 315 yards and 5 TD's. He became a high school All-American defensive back and went on to Vanderbilt University. He was a four year starter and All SEC his Senior year. He also earned post season honors by playing in the Blue/Gray  and  North/ South All-Star games. He was captain of the North/South game along with the now Movie actor and then UCLA QB Mark Harman. He was drafted in the 5th round by the Baltimore Colts in 1974 and started for seven years before retiring in 1981 to become a Marketing Manager with a Medical Supply company. In 2000 in came home to began his teaching/coaching career at Mosley High. He returned to Maryland in 2002 to work at Landon School, a private school for boys.The football team has won four Championships since he had been there.  He  teaches American History as well as coaches the Defense and Track Team. Doug is now in the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame and the Vanderbilt Wall of Fame. His daughter Asia, is in her Senior year at St. Johns University in NY where she in a team captain of the Track Team.
